A standalone sermon plus eight episodes. A verse-by-verse walk through the Vine and the Branches — the one word the entire Christian life runs on. The sermon sounds the alarm: the Master returns suddenly, and only readiness counts. This series answers what that readiness actually is.
The front door to this catalog number is a standalone message, "The Oil You Can't Borrow" — the parable of the ten virgins, five with oil and five without, all identical until midnight. The sermon names the one thing that separated them: a real, ongoing relationship with the Bridegroom. Jesus has a name for that relationship, and John 15 is where He teaches it in full.
Eight episodes walk the Vine and the Branches verse by verse: who the true Vine is, against the failed vine of Israel's history; the Father's pruning knife, which cuts the branches that are already bearing fruit; the hinge of the whole discourse — apart from Me you can do nothing; the sober warning of the branch that withers; a prayer reshaped by His abiding word; a love you get to rest inside rather than perform toward; a friendship that replaces mere servanthood; and a closing word on being chosen before you ever chose.
Every episode answers the same question the sermon opened with: is your connection to Christ a living one, continually drawing life — or is it merely attached in appearance, the way a cut flower still looks alive for a few days after it's already died?

Ten virgins, five wise, five foolish — identical until midnight. The one difference: oil that couldn't be borrowed or shared at the last minute. The alarm this whole series exists to answer.

The most loaded symbol in Israel's history — carved on the temple gate, stamped on their coins. Jesus says "true," which means there was a false one. The vine God carried out of Egypt and planted, and waited on for fruit that never came.

Not the dead branches — the living, fruitful ones. A single Greek word turns the painful cut into a cleansing, and reframes every season of loss that made no sense at the time.

The hinge of the whole discourse. A cut flower can look alive for days after it's already died. The most offensive sentence in the chapter to a self-made culture — and the most freeing, once it lands.

The soberest episode in the series. Not every branch that looks attached is drawing life. An X-ray, not a threat — meant to be read while there's still time to do something about what it shows.

Not a blank check — two conditions sit in front of that promise. What happens to your own desires when Scripture actually takes up residence and reshapes what you find yourself wanting.

The warmest episode in the series. Not a lesser love scraped together after the real love was spent on the Son — the same love, aimed at you. The house you're already living in, not the destination you're working toward.

A servant knows what to do; a friend knows why. A love that measures itself by a cross, and two Old Testament men who were actually called friends of God.

The discourse closes exactly where the sermon began: readiness doesn't start with you choosing to be ready. It starts with Him choosing you first — before you ever had a chance to compete for it.

John 15:5Abiding is not one more spiritual discipline to perform correctly. It is a branch, joined to a Vine, fed continually, bearing fruit it could never manufacture on its own effort. The Father's knife, the withering warning, the reshaped prayers, the love you get to rest inside, the friendship that replaces servanthood — every one of these is what a real, living connection to Christ actually looks like, verse by verse.
And the discourse closes exactly where the sermon that opened this catalog number began. Ten virgins, five with oil and five without, all identical until midnight — and the one thing that separated them was never a technique or a performance. It was whether the oil was real. Whether the connection was alive. Whether they were, in fact, abiding.
You did not choose this connection first. He chose you — and appointed you to bear fruit that abides, the same way the branch abides in the Vine that is still holding it.
